The Misfit of Demon King Academy has to be the most overrated anime of Winter 2023. It’s the perfect example of a generic fantasy series with an extremely overpowered lead.

The show is a power fantasy with a lackluster plot, dull characters, and no character development. However, regardless of all its shortcomings, the series is enjoyable and exciting at every turn.

Anos Voldigoad is a former Demon King who sacrificed himself for the greater good in the hope to be reborn into a better, peaceful world.

However, the future has changed drastically. No one remembers the Legacy of Anos Voldigoad, so he takes it upon himself to uncover the truth and let his nation recognize him as the true Demon Lord.

3. Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro 2nd Attack

There are specific types of people who enjoy watching Nagatoro teasing the poor senpai until he gives up and starts crying. The show seems problematic in the first few episodes.

However, the series slowly evolves into senpai and Nagatoro having a more healthy relationship. The characters go through a development phase, and the story becomes more than just Nagatoro bullying the senpai.

The story revolves around Naoto, a loner at school. He prefers to work on his manga in the library instead of making friends.

The show focuses on its lead character, Kotoko Iwanaga, who is the mediator between the spirit and the human realm, and her job is to resolve what may cause spirits to wander into the human realm.

Of course, she feels trapped by the current settings and looks for ways to make her life interesting, and that is when he comes across Kurou, a university student who recently broke up. Learning about their daily life will leave you spellbound with the show effortlessly.

8. Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon IV

Danmachi or rather Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon is a masterpiece with endless potential, the series manages to wow the fans with each airing season.

Speaking from the anime-only perspective, the world-building of Danmachi leaves much to be answered but there is no denying its limitless potential.

Dungeon levels are carefully designed, monsters rank from weak to overpowered, and the role of god in the world. Danmachi takes all these elements and shows them in detail.

Season four part 1 ended with quite the cliffhanger and fans are eager to know what happens after Lambton swallows Bell and Ryuu and takes them to the deeper floors. Otherwise known as the White Palace.

Spy Room is the long-awaited action, mystery anime series worked on by studio Feel, known for their masterful works on SNAFU, and Dagashi Kashi. The anime is coming out in Winter 2023.

The series focuses on the aftermath of war and how the world governments launched local institutions to train youth to become spies to further their agendas against other countries.

Lily is the protagonist of the series studying at a local institution. Her only goal of becoming a spy becomes challenging because, despite her vast knowledge, she is terrible at executions.

All hope seems lost until she receives a mysterious invitation to join a secret team known as Tomoshibi to aid in an impassable mission.

10. Trigun Stampede

Trigun Stampede is a Netflix series that serves as the prequel to the original Trigun series that came out in April 1998. The series will cover the events prior to the original series and reveal how Vash ended up with a 60,000,000,000 bounty over his head.

The series will also reveal the story between Vash and his older brother Knives (million knives), and what exactly drove them apart.

Vash the Stampede is a wandering gunman with a 60 billion dollar bounty on his head which has made it difficult for him to go anywhere because every town he goes to ends up destroyed because of the bounty hunters.

Saving 80,000 Gold in Another World gives us an insight into what would happen if the character isn’t actually heroic or delusional but rather a realist who only looks after themselves.

Mitsuha finds herself in a tough spot dealing with some delinquents when she falls down a cliff and gets transported into another world. Soon realizing she can travel between worlds, she uses this opportunity to drum up some money to live an easy life.

She soon becomes a weapons dealer, selling the modern world weapon to the fantasy world for a hefty price, not caring about what may happen.

12. Tsurune Season 2

Sports anime tend to leave an everlasting impression on us, it’s not about the sport but rather the emotions you feel seeing these characters connect with their lost passion.

Everyone has dreams and passions growing up, we’ve all felt that moment that changed our lives forever when we know what we wanted to do in life.

Tsurune is the sound an arrow makes when it leaves the bow. The story follows Minato Narumiya who loves to learn Kyuudo, Japanese martial art that focuses on Archery. However, he was forced to quit because of an injury he sustained in middle school.

Yet, in his first year of high school, Minato decides to pursue his passion and start a new Kyudo club with some encouragement from his childhood friends and new teammates, he chases his dream of winning the prefectural tournament.

13. Tomo-Chan Is a Girl!

Guys can be dense but this takes it to another level, not realizing your best bro is actually a girl, not even taking a hint from her advances just adds insult to injury.

Tomo-Chan is a girl, is romance, comedy anime coming out in Winter 2023 about a muscle-headed girl who in love with her roughhousing buddy, Junichirou Kabuto, and Jun is who is dense to notice her advances.

Tomo and Jun are childhood friends. They were there for each other through everything, and grew up together.

Tomo has developed romantic feelings toward Jun. Her advances bare no result and her explicit confession was taken as a joke, how will she overcome the infamous brozone.

14. The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten

It’s surely nothing new for a guy to have a messy apartment, it’d be weird if the apartment is clean; however, things are more dire when it comes to the apartment of Amane Fujimiya.

The series is about a guy who catches a cold in the rain after giving his umbrella to a girl sitting alone in the rain, only expecting her to return the umbrella later.

However, Mahiru Shiina returns the favor the only way she knows how. That is to take care of him until he is fully well, but she has no idea about the horrors within a teen boy’s apartment.

Although his apartment is a mess, she takes it upon herself to clean the apartment. Plus, she also cooks him food, and does all other house chores.

15. Kubo Won’t Let Me Be Invisible

Kubo won’t let me be invisible doesn’t seem much different from an average “girl teasing the guy she likes” anime, we’ve seen those before. However, these annoying waifus make life less boring.

The anime focuses on Junta Shiraishi, an average high school student whose lack of presence causes him to be invisible to everyone around him, everyone in his class assumes he skips school and rumor has it that whoever spots him will have good fortune.

However, there is only one person who always notices him and that’s Kubo Nagisa, Junta’s classmate who loves to tease him on a daily basis.

I hope that’s not the reason she’s after him. Maybe those rumors attract her and she just wants a good fortune. 

16. The Ice Guy and His Cool Female colleague

This romantic office love story is going to give you a fuzzy feeling inside. Office romances usually have adult setting with mature characters which already makes this show worth a watch.

Several humans belong to a species of supernatural with unique powers, Homuro has the ability of ice. Whenever his thoughts engulf him, his arctic powers take over and either cause him to freeze up on his feet or his coworkers to suffer.

However, his cold exterior doesn’t match his personality. He’s a warm and welcoming person who loves to help out his coworkers and has a soft spot for his colleague, Fuyutsuki.

Fuyutsuki always tries to help him however she can and often cause him to have a snowstorm of emotions.

17. Farming Life in Another World

Farming Life in Another World might be popular as a farming simulator. The series heavily focuses on the element of farming and builds the whole world around it.

The story focuses on Hiraku Macho who dies due to sickness at the age of 39. Life gives him an opportunity to be reincarnated in a fantasy world.

When god gives him his new life, Machio asks for a lot of things. He asks for a healthy body, a chance to live peacefully, the ability to understand the local language. Not just that, he also asks to be born as a local farmer.

The entire story revolves around a simple man who wishes to live a simple life. It’s true his wishes do make him an overpowered MC, the show mainly focuses on farming and community building.

18. Endo and Kobayashi Live! The Latest on Tsundere Villainess

This is quite a unique take on the visual novel games. The broadcasting club members, Aoto Endou and Shihono Kobayashi decide to play a game, and are somehow able to voice their thoughts to the characters inside the game.

While in another universe, Riefenstahl Lieselotte is a foul character who is famous to be quite evil. However, in reality, she’s an insecure girl who hides her true feeling toward prince Siegward.

Distraught by this, the Prince gives up trying to win the princess’s heart until he hears the voices of the broadcasting members. They tell him about the princess’s true feelings.

Believing these are divine revelations, he sets on a quest to rescue the princess from the clutches of the evil witch.

19. By the Grace of the Gods Season 2

Sometimes a relaxing adventure, slice-of-life anime is all you need when you are having a bad day. The adventure of Ryouma Takebayashi is returning with a weekly dose of delight.

39-year-old Ryouma is the victim of a terrible workplace environment. He passes away in his sleep. However, life gives him a chance to live a different life in a magical fantasy world.

Now, a young Ryouma spends lives in the forest and does research on slimes of different kinds. Furthermore, he has a good physique and a strong capability for magic.

Ryouma helps heal the wounds of some injured travelers. They invite him to visit their down. He agrees and on a journey to explore the world and help others with his powers.

20. My Life as Inukai-San’s Dog

Let’s not talk about how this is every guy’s secret fantasy. Go over the story of a guy waking up as his crush’s pet dog. We will watch the whole show from a dog’s perspective.

A schoolboy wakes up and finds himself completely changed. When he wakes up as a dog, and to top it off, his crush, adopts him. The only things on his mind are how to be a good boy. Plus, he also thinks of returning back to his human body.

Even though most of his memories are still intact, he has no recollection of how he became a dog. Or how can he return back to his human form. And now he has to adjust to living with his crush as a literal dog.

The series is going to be a blast of entertainment with plenty of fanservice.
