Bandai Namco Entertainment recently announced that the latest game of the popular Tekken fighting game franchise, Tekken 8, has sold more than 2 million copies worldwide.
The game was released on January 26 in the following platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam.
The Tekken 8 game takes place six years after the Tekken 7 stories. The game franchise was recognized by the Guinness World Records as having the longest running narrative in video game history.
The following characters are currently playable in game: Jin Kazama, Kazuya Mishima, Nina Williams, Jun Kazama, Paul Phoenix, Marshall Law, King, Lars Alexandersson, Jack-8, Ling Xiaoyu, Asuka Kazama, Leroy Smith, Lili, Hwoarang, Bryan, Azucena, Claudio, Raven, Devil Jin, Lee Chaolan, Alisa Bosconovitch, Victor Chevalier, Reina, Leo, Steve, Dragunov, Feng, Yoshimitsu, Shaheen, Kuma, Panda, Zafina, and Lee Chaolan.
A Tekken shop with free and paid additional content will be released in the late February to early March 2024 update. The character Eddie will be released as a DLC in spring. DLC characters in the game will have their stories expanded in story mode. Tekken World Tour will be added into the third update in April. The shop will have one to two updates per month, this includes the UNIQLO UT x Tekken pack as the first free content for players.
The game’s story mode will be added for the additional characters to be slated in the summer, showing how they were involved in the current game’s main story. The stories will be explored in free expansions for the main story than individual character episodes than usual.
Aside from the popular game series, an anime series, Tekken: Bloodline premiered in Netflix in August 2022. The anime adaptation’s storyline is based on the Tekken 3 fighting game storyline. Tekken 3 was released in arcades in 1997 before being ported to the Sony PlayStation.
