Bandai Namco Entertainment made an announcement on Friday unveiling the addition of the first DLC character, Eddy Gordo, to its Tekken 8 game, set to debut on April 4. The company simultaneously released a gameplay trailer showcasing the character in action.
Eddy Gordo, a beloved character who made his first appearance in Tekken 3, will be accessible to players who purchased the Deluxe Edition or Ultimate Edition of the game even earlier, on April 1.
Tekken 8, which launched on January 26 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, boasted 32 characters upon its release. The game garnered impressive sales figures, surpassing 2 million copies worldwide by February.
Set nearly six years after Tekken 7, the storyline of Tekken 8 further expands the rich narrative legacy of the franchise, which was recognized by Guinness World Records as the longest-running narrative in video game history.
Playable characters in Tekken 8 include familiar faces such as Jin Kazama, Kazuya Mishima, Nina Williams, and many others.
Post-launch, the game introduced a Tekken shop offering both free and paid additional content, including DLC characters with expanded storylines integrated into a dedicated story mode. The third update in April will introduce the Tekken World Tour, with the shop receiving regular updates, including the UNIQLO UT x Tekken pack as the initial free offering for players.
Expanding on character backgrounds and narratives, a story mode for additional characters will be introduced in the summer, seamlessly weaving their tales into the main storyline of the game through free expansions rather than standalone character episodes.
Moreover, the Tekken: Bloodline anime series, based on the storyline of Tekken 3, premiered on Netflix in August 2022.
