Kadokawa announced on Friday that Rocket Shokai’s popular light novel series, Sentenced to Be a Hero: The Prison Records of Penal Hero Unit 9004 (Yūsha-kei ni Shosu: Chōbatsu Yūsha 9004-tai Keimu Kiroku), is set to make its television debut as an anime adaptation. Alongside this revelation, the company unveiled a teaser promo video and visual.
Studio KAI has been confirmed as the production studio behind the eagerly anticipated anime. Originally launched on Kadokawa’s Kakuyomu site in October 2020, the light novel series quickly gained popularity, leading to its publication in print format by Kadokawa with illustrations by Mephisto starting in September 2021. With the sixth volume slated for release on April 17, anticipation is running high among fans eager to delve deeper into the series’ captivating narrative.
Expanding the franchise further, Natsumi Inoue recently launched a manga adaptation of the novel on Kadokawa’s Dengeki Comic Regulus website in March 2022. The first compiled volume of the manga hit shelves in December 2022, with the second volume scheduled for release on April 26. International fans can also look forward to experiencing the series, as BookWalker Global plans to release the manga digitally in English.
Yen Press is confirmed to be release the novel series in English and describes the story as follows:
