On March 20, Atlus announced that the release date for Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance, an enhanced version of its Shin Megami Tensei V game, has been rescheduled to June 14. Initially planned for June 21, the game will now launch earlier on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.
Previously, Atlus had unveiled a longer version trailer.
The updated version of the game will feature new locations, storyline, demons and choices. The original game was released for the Nintendo in November 2021. Nintendo revealed back in January 2017 that Altus was developing a game for the Nintendo Switch (which was still a newly released console at the time.) Atlus USA then confirmed in November 2017 that the game would have a Western Release. Shin Megami Tensei V is part of the franchise’s 25th anniversary project and is developed in Unreal Engine 4.
About Shin Megami Tensei
The Shin Megami Tensei (SMT) series is a highly acclaimed and influential franchise of role-playing video games developed by Atlus, a Japanese video game developer. The series is known for its deep storytelling, mature themes, and unique gameplay mechanics.
The series began in 1992 with the release of Shin Megami Tensei for the Super Famicom (the Japanese version of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System). The game was inspired by the novel Digital Devil Story by Aya Nishitani, and it incorporated elements of cyberpunk and occult themes.
The games typically feature a blend of traditional turn-based combat and dungeon exploration. Players control a party of characters who can recruit, summon, and fuse demons to aid them in battles. The negotiation system, where players can converse with demons to recruit them, is a hallmark of the series.
One of the defining features of the Shin Megami Tensei series is its alignment system, which presents players with moral choices throughout the game. These choices affect the storyline and the player character’s alignment on a spectrum ranging from Lawful to Neutral to Chaotic.
In addition to the mainline Shin Megami Tensei games, the series has spawned numerous spin-offs and sub-series. The most notable of these include the Persona series, which focuses on high school students summoning Personas to battle supernatural forces, and the Devil Survivor series, which combines traditional SMT gameplay with strategy RPG elements.
