American rock band OneRepublic debuted their latest digital track “Nobody” on April 12, unveiling its lyric video on their official YouTube channel. The song is slated to serve as the closing theme for the spring 2024 TV anime Kaiju No.8, complementing the opening theme “Abyss” by English singer YOUNGBLUD.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the project, lead vocalist Ryan Tedder shared his sentiments on the Kaiju No. 8 anime’s official website, stating, “I’ve long been a passionate admirer of Japan, finding inspiration in its anime, manga, music, cuisine, and rich cultural tapestry. My lifelong fascination with superheroes fuels my excitement for Kaiju No. 8, as I aspire to embody the strength of its protagonist, Kafka.”
Tedder further revealed insights into the song’s creation process, noting, “In the spring of 2023, I engaged in discussions with the Kaiju No. 8 anime team, immersing myself in their footage and storyboards to grasp the essence of the series and its characters. Drawing from my experiences and observations during a business trip to Japan in November 2023, I penned the lyrics, aiming to encapsulate the vibrancy, joy, and luminous moments synonymous with the country’s spirit. This song is a heartfelt tribute to Japan and its profound influence on my creative journey.”
Naoya Matsumoto’s acclaimed manga Kaiju No. 8 debuted on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ website in July 2020, with its first print volume released in December 2020. In September 2021, the manga surpassed 4 million copies in circulation, setting a record as the fastest Shonen Jump+ manga to reach this milestone. The series has been recognized with nominations at prestigious awards ceremonies such as the Manga Taisho Awards, the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize, and the Eisner Awards.
