It was announced by Mag Garden on Thursday, February 22 (known in Japan as “Cat Day”) that the Night of the Living Cat manga by Hawkman and Mecha-Roots will have its on anime adaptation.
According to its official website, the anime adaptation is slated to premiere in 2025. The announcement also came with the release of a teaser trailer.
The manga was first published in October 2020 in Mag Garden’s Comic Garden publication. The manga’s fifth volumed was released in Japan on February 22. Seven Seas Entertainment licenses the manga in English and released the third volume in English on October 2023. The fourth volume is slated to be released on June 11.

“A virus spreads across the world, transforming all humankind into wild, slavering, furry beasts: cats, to be precise. Those few survivors who remain human take refuge in the dark corners of the earth as they fight back against the feline horde. Kunagi, a man with no memory of his past yet a deep knowledge of cats, struggles to hold on with only his wits and a will to survive. Yet the virus transmits merely through cuddles, and Kunagi finds kitties so hard to resist! Is his willpower strong enough to withstand this hair-raising cat-tastrophe?”
Next Manga Award Nomination and Winners
In 2021, the manga was nominated for the Best Printed Manga category in the seventh Next Manga Award. This year, it was one by Mengo Yokoyari’s Oshi no Ko (for print) and Naoya Matsumoto’s Kaiju No. 8 (for web). 2022 was won by Tsurumaikada’s Medalist (for print) and Junishi’s Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You (for print). 2023 was won by Muchimaro’s Seitokai ni mo Ana wa Aru! (for print) and Sumiko Arai’s Ki ni Natteru Hito ga Otoko Janakatta. Kohei Horikoshi’s My Hero Academia and Fujita’s Wotakoi: Love Is Hard for Otaku have won the award for the year 2015 in print and web respectively.
