The South Korean live-action adaptation of Parasyte manga titled Parasyte: The Grey (Kiseiju: The Gray) is slated to be released on Netflix on April 5. The staff this upcoming adaptation also released a new visual for the series on Wednesday.
Episodes are expected to run in the streaming platform until June of this year. The official cast confirm to be part of the show are Jeon So-nee, Koo Kyo-hwa, and Lee Jung-hyun. Train to Busan director Yeon Sang-ho is confirmed to be the director of the series. Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area scriptwriter Ryu Yong-jae will be penning the script for the series.
As of this time, Netflix has not revealed yet the roles for the announced cast members Kwon Hae-yo and Kim In-kwon so far.
The show is based on the manga Parasyte created by Hitoshi Iwaaki. Although the production is based on the original manga series, this upcoming adaptation will contain a new story. Jeon So-nee will be playing the role of Jeon Su-in, a who is aattacked by a parasite. When “it failed to take over brain, she enters a bizarre coexistence with it. Koo Kyo-hwan will be playing the character Seol Kang-woo, who is pursuing parasites in order to find his missing younger sister. Koo Kyo-hwa plays the leader of the parasite battling task force The Grey, whose husband was killed by the parasites.
The original manga series was released in Kodansha’s Afternoon magazine from 1990 until 1995. In a report by Anime News Network, Parasyte “takes place in a world where alien beings called Parasites come to Earth and start taking over humans by entering in through their noses and ears and attaching themselves to their brains. One alien called Migi is only able to take over high school student Shinichi Izumi’s right arm, and is unable to control Shinichi completely. Migi and Shinichi learn to co-exist, and the two battle other Parasites who see humans only as food.”
The manga’s popularity have expanded into an anime adaptation that premiered in 2014 and two Japanese live-action films released in 2014 and 2015.
