Highschool of the dead is a series that has never been forgotten. This ecchi horror anime series is about the struggle for survival, filled with thrilling moments. The first was exciting; it kept us on the edge of our seats, we haven’t much about Highschool of the Dead season 2, but fans are still hoping for it.
Even though the series had a somewhat decent story with hilarious characters, it became popular due to its ecchi elements and ability to turn every intense moment into a blast of fanservice.
The first season of the show left a lot of fans disappointed and wanting more, the characters were successfully able to escape from Takagi’s mansion, but their ecchi journey doesn’t stop there. The series did receive a side story titled Drifters of the Dead, but we haven’t heard anything about a sequel.

Will there be Highschool of the Dead season 2?
There are lots of factors that play a role when deciding whether a series will get a sequel or not, and while there is no doubt the series was incredibly popular, there is hardly enough source material left to create an entire season.
The first season of Highschool of the Dead ended with a cliffhanger, and fans want to know how they continue living in this ecchi post-apocalyptic world.
The show did receive an OVA one year later titled drifters of the dead that showed what happens after the group manages to escape the mainland.
The OVA was full of fanservice, to no one surprise, and gave a clear insight on what to expect from Highschool of the Dead season 2.
The original author of the series, Daisuke Sato, passed away in 2017, and unfortunately, he wasn’t able to give the series a proper ending.
The editor of the Triage X series stated that there is no one in the world who can inherit Daisuke Sato’s work and continue his vision for the series unless they knew him personally and his plans for the series.
What is studio Madhouse working on?
Studio Madhouse is a top-tier contender when it comes to making some of the most badass anime series of all time.
It’s been over a decade since Madhouse animated the Highschool of the Dead series, and they have released some amazing titles, including One Punch Man S2, Overlord, Takt Op. Destiny and No Game No Life: Zero movie.
It seems unlikely that we’ll get to see a sequel of Highschool of the Dead since there is not enough source material left, though we might get another OVA or a movie.
What happened so far in Highschool of the Dead?
They managed to get some rest after finally making it to Takagi’s mansion; however, China launched a ballistic missile strike that caused an EMP, disabling all the vehicles and security systems in the mansion.
After realizing the mansion isn’t safe anymore, the group decides to fight off the hoard of zombies and escape using the Humvee that remains unaffected.
In the OVA, the gang arrives at a remote island that seems to be free from any zombies and decides to have some beach fun, but things turn bad when they decide to burn hydrangea leaves that cause them all to hallucinate completely different and unique erotic scenarios.
How much source material is left?
The series went on a hiatus when Daisuke Sato, the original creator of the manga series, passed away in 2017.
The series is unfinished, with currently seven volumes, four of which were animated into the first season.
So, one can argue there isn’t enough source material to create an entire season, but even if the studio creates an OVA or a movie, there is no concluded ending to the series, and it will eventually leave the fans unsatisfied.
