During its panel at Sakura Con this year, Bandai Namco Filmworks made an exciting announcement: the Mobile Suit Gundam Seed FREEDOM film will hit theaters in the U.S. and Canada on May 7-8 in collaboration with Fathom Events. Audiences can catch the film in Japanese with English subtitles on May 7, followed by an English dub screening on May 8 in the U.S. Ticket sales commence on April 5, so mark your calendars!
Viewers attending the screenings will be treated to a special video message from the film’s director, Mitsuo Fukuda, adding an extra layer of excitement to the event.
Bandai Namco Filmworks is set to host U.S. premieres of the Mobile Suit Gundam Seed FREEDOM film, complete with English subtitles, in Los Angeles and New York City on Sunday. The Los Angeles event, taking place at the Regal L.A. Live theater, will feature a talk show segment with Japanese cast members Sōichiro Hoshi and Rie Tanaka, alongside dub producers Michael Sinterniklaas and Stephanie Sheh (also known for voicing Lacus Clyne in English). Meanwhile, the New York City screening at Japan Society will include a special talk show featuring English dub cast member Alyson Leigh Rosenfield, along with a special comment video from Director Mitsuo Fukuda.
Additionally, Japan Society will host an English-dubbed screening on April 1 for those eager to catch an early glimpse of the action.
Originally released in Japan on January 26, the Mobile Suit Gundam Seed FREEDOM film is set to captivate audiences across 56 countries and territories. The film is part of the Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Project ignited initiative, launched in 2021 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the original Mobile Suit Gundam Seed anime in 2022. As part of this initiative, fans can also anticipate a new Mobile Suit Gundam Seed game and the Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Eclipse side-story manga.
The Japanese website Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM describes the movie as follows:
“Cosmic Era (C.E.)
An era where a genetically engineered humankind with enhanced brains and strength (Coordinators), and naturally born humankind (Naturals) exist together.
A war had previously raged on between the Coordinator and the Naturals in a clash of ideals in regards to their own self beings
During the time, the Destiny Plan had been brought up which would may have created a world without war, but each individuals would be forcibly given a role to play.
To protect the humanity’s freedom to choose their future and hope, the Destiny Plan was rejected in the battle.
With many sacrifices, the war had ended.
