Great Pretender Season 3 Trailer

The third season of Great Pretender will fall under the sequel title “Great Pretender Razbliuto”. This season, we will follow the journey of Dorothy who is the teacher of the previous protagonist, Laurent Thierry. Here’s the latest trailer for the series.

As the trailer suggests, Dorothy will make her way to East Asia as her next target instead of doing her bidding in America. Furthermore, a new place means new characters. But, maybe we will meet a familiar face in the upcoming season as well.

For the animation itself, there is no difference in quality between the previous and the upcoming season. Well, Wit Studio really lives up to its name as one of the best anime studios there is. We can expect great visuals from Hiro Kaburagi.

It is confirmed that Great Pretender season 3 will premiere on February 23, 2024, exclusively on DMM TV. Meanwhile, Crunchyroll already brought the series into North America in theaters for two days from January 9 to 10, 2024. But, we can expect the series to come into several streaming services such as Netflix and FOD because the first and second installments are still there.

Great Pretender Season 3 Cast and Staff

Because the series will provide a side story instead of continuing the main story revolving around Makoto Edamura, it is given that there will be new characters introduced. So far, the official website of the anime has already released six new characters. They are:

Hiro Kaburagi (91 Days) will return to direct the series at Wit Studio. Taku Kishimoto (Blue Lock) will work on the series composition and Hirotaka Katou (The Ancient Magus’ Bride) will draw the character design. 

Meanwhile, Yoshiyuki Sadamoto (Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time) will provide the original design for the series. Shouji Hata (Spy x Family) is coming back as the sound director and Yutaka Yamada (Vinland Saga) is also coming back to compose the music.

Story

The third installment of Great Pretender will focus on Dorothy, the self-proclaimed genius con artist who recruited the infamous Laurent Thierry to a life full of crime. This time, she is supposed to be dead after being defeated at her own game by the Shanghai Longu Bang. 

But, she emerges in a small seaside village. Pursued by the underworld organization from Taipei, she fled to Kyoto. What will she find there? Enjoy the fascinating story of Dorothy in Great Pretender Razbliuto where she makes her way through Asia while facing an unexpected threat!

Conclusion

Great Pretender is the most intriguing crime anime in 2020. Now that the sequel is confirmed, the franchise will expand to the new stage. Maybe, if this season ends up successful, there will be another Great Pretender anime coming in the future.

But, will the franchise rebuild the fanbase though? Sure, it gained critical acclaim back in the day as original anime, but it still fell into an underrated anime category. There is a feeling that TOHO might use this season to test the water. If this test is deemed successful, we may have another form of Great Pretender franchise on the way.
