Apple TV+ has officially greenlit a second season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, the enthralling series from Legendary Entertainment that delves into the realm of Godzilla and the Titans. This renewal marks the inception of a comprehensive partnership with Legendary Entertainment, promising a slew of spinoffs within the franchise. Notably, the core creative team will return for the forthcoming season.
The series premiered globally on November 17th, for ten episodes. The premiere showcased the first two episodes concurrently, with subsequent episodes rolling out weekly until January 12th.
Frontlined by Kurt Russell and his son Wyatt Russell, the series intertwines narratives across generations, with Kurt embodying Army officer Lee Shaw and Wyatt portraying his successor. Mari Yamamoto brings depth to the role of scientist Keiko, while Anna Sawai embodies Cate, a resilient survivor of G-Day and former educator. Ren Watabe adds nuance to Kentaro, a young man navigating his purpose, while Kiersey Clemons intrigues as the enigmatic May, an American expatriate with a shadowed past. Joe Tippett portrays Tim, an office worker yearning for excitement, and Elisa Lasowski impresses as Duvall, an adept operative exuding unwavering confidence. Anders Holm recurs role as Bill.
Co-creators Chris Black and Matt Fraction, with Black as showrunner, spearhead the creative direction, with executive producers Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell of Safehouse Pictures. Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita from TOHO are also credited as as executive producers. Notably, Matt Shakman, renowned for his work on Wandavision, directs the initial two episodes.
Set in the aftermath of the 2014 Godzilla film, “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” navigates a world where myth and reality converge, chronicling a family’s quest to uncover buried truths and their link to the clandestine organization, Monarch.
