The usual trope of hero x demon lord is almost extinct. In this day and age, there should be a side gig even if they adopt such a general concept. For example, Konosuba weighs on its comedy rather than its original quest, Redo Healer starts its own anime after the demon lord’s defeat, and so on. Frieren also falls in this category.
But what is the catch? How about instead of focusing on the hero, why don’t we focus on the journey of the hero’s companion? That’s what this anime is about.
We are excited to see the journey of an elven mage whose age surpasses her teammates. While drowning in loneliness, she still walks forward to the endless road. Here’s the latest information related to the fantasy anime.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Trailer and Visual teaser
Since the official announcement of the fantasy series adaptation back on September 13, 2022, anime enthusiasts haven’t heard anything beyond that. The only information released was the anime will premiere somewhere in 2023. The news was unveiled back on November 29, 2022.
That void of information is finally filled with the release of PV and visual teaser on March 8, 2023. It states that the anime series will enter the fall 2023 anime roster. The exact date is still TBA.
This will be the first trailer of the Freiren: Beyond Journey anime adaptation. It shows the hero’s party consisting of a hero, priest, dwarf, and elf. Though it doesn’t show the defeated demon lord, we can see their statues. The non-manga reader will know that the story starts when their journey ends.
Frieren also said only one line “See you next time” to her companion indicating that they will go separate ways.
The visual trailer from the official website shows how lonely she is because of her long lifespan. If you expect a boring story of an elf’s slow life after the great journey, don’t fret. Let me give you a bit of a spoiler, her slow life isn’t exactly “slow” either.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Cast and Staff
Though the trailer has four characters, the voice cast only revealed Atsumi Tanezaki (Chitose Hatori – The Ancient Magus’ Bride) as Frieren. Further cast is still TBA.
Keiichiro Saito (Bocchi the Rock!) will direct the anime at Madhouse, while Tomohiro Suzuki (One Punch Man) will oversee the series composition. The character design will be drawn by Reiko Nagasawa (Takt Op. Destiny) and the music will be arranged by Evan Call(Violet Evergarden Movie).
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Story
The demon king has been defeated, and the hero’s party returns home victorious. Instead of sticking together, they decided to go their separate ways. Before that, the four of them reminisce about their decade-long journey before saying farewell to each other.
Alas, the elf has a longer lifespan than others. She witnesses her companion’s life ending one by one. Before her last companion, the priest Heiter dies. He asks her to bring a young human apprentice called Fern to be her companion.
The pair embarks on a journey aimlessly from place to place. She often revisits the place of her past journey with the hero’s party. Along their travels, Frieren slowly realizes her regrets in his past adventure about why she didn’t make a deeper bond with her now-deceased comrades.
