The Story So Far (SPOILER ALERT!)
This season has been action and story-packed for sure. That whole lawless city arc gave us some and more! Cid also proved to be as self-absorbed as ever with the happenings but still managed to get some laughs out of us with his usual antics.
The creators revealed new characters, and I dare to say, we’re in good hands, ladies and gents. That Blood Queen and female Van Hellsing twist, the monarchs, John Smith, and the whole political tug of war that’s going down… there’s only one word to describe it- Sugoi!

Overview of The Eminence in Shadow
The Eminence in Shadow is said to be a parody of Isekais. The creator wants to get a laugh out of the usual tropes- overpowered MC, harem, and the indispensable Truck kun- and they haven’t disappointed so far.
It reminds me of Konosuba in that it takes Isekai tropes and adds a self-aware main character, who is constantly making fun of, and engineering said tropes.
The characters in this Anime are the soul and the reason for its fame- they elevate the entertainment to awesome levels.
Additionally, the animation quality in The Eminence in Shadow is solid and well-maintained. The anime’s dark color palette accentuates the action scenes, and the atmosphere is exactly as it should be.
Music scoring and timing are great in the series too! Depending on what’s going on on the screen, it compliments so well. For instance, when Shadow does something cool, his unique theme plays, making it much more iconic. On a related note, have you read about the Eminence in Shadow’s Season 2 Opening and Ending theme song?
The Eminence in the Shadow is a great series, especially this season 2, that gets you and keeps you hooked. It’s hilarious, adventurous, and utterly enjoyable. Let’s keep at it guys, entertainment like this is always a welcome treat.
Easter eggs in The Eminence in Shadow Season 2 Countdown: Names Edition
Watching anime doesn’t require us to speak Japanese as subs and dubs are there to alleviate that issue. But still, there’s only so much that subs and dubs can do. Some jokes and puns are hard to translate or sometimes overlooked, such as the meaning of the names.
Let’s start with Cid Kageno. His name is layered, with his surname Kageno coming from the Japanese word ‘Kage’ for shadow, which roughly translates to ‘of shadows.’ Cid derives from the Arabic honorific ‘al-sid,’ which means ‘lord.’ Therefore, when placed in the Japanese writing style, Kageno Cid roughly translates to ‘Lord of Shadows’ which perfectly reflects his dream of becoming the Eminence in Shadow.
That’s as far as deep and thought-out names go though. The other characters in The Eminence in Shadow have it rough. Case in point, the two friends that Cid hangs out with to add to his image as nobody, both have funny names- Po Tato and Skel Etal.
Po Tato, pronounced ‘Jaga Imo’ in Japanese, is the second son of the Baron Tato family, who also own and tend to a potato farm. He is small, and plain looking which makes him resemble a potato. Similarly, Cid’s other friend, Skel Etal, pronounced ‘Hyroto Gari’ in Japanese, is named to describe his tall, skinny stature.
The nickname, Jimina Sennen, that Cid adopts during his plan to shock the tournament’s audience, in the Eminence in Shadow season 2, also directly translates to ‘Mundane Man.’ This gives him the perfect cover for his delusional plan.
