It was revealed during the IGN Fan Fest on Saturday that anime streaming giant Crunchyroll will be producing a documentary centered on the Solo Leveling franchise.
This documentary is in collaboration with Crunchyroll and AllSo, a Paris-based production company. The event also unveiled the trailer for this documentary. Aside from this, they also teased an English-dubbed clip of the anime’s sixth episode.
The Solo Leveling anime premiered in Japan on January 6, while the English dub was released by Crunchyroll on January 20. It is based on the hit manhwa of the same name written by Chugong and illustrated by the late artist DUBU of REDICE Studio.
The manhwa adaptation of the series was first released on Webtoon services in March 2018 and concluded on December 2021. The massive popularity of the series has expanded into a physical release licensed and published by Yen Press in English. The Japanese version of the manhwa was given the title Ore Dake Level-Up na Ken (I’m the Only One Who Has Leveled Up) was released and published by Kadokawa.
Aside from the current anime adaptation, it was also confirmed that a Korean live-action adaptation is also in the works.
The anime is currently directed by Shunsuke Nakashige at A-1 Pictures. Noburu Kimura is credited as the series’ head writer. Character design is done by Tomoko Sudo. Music composition is done by Hiroyuki Sawano. TOMORROW X TOGETHER, the sibling group of the popular K-pop group BTS and composer Hiroyuki Sawano (SawanoHiroyuki[nZk]) performed the anime’s opening theme song titled “LEveL.”
Crunchyroll also released the anime’s synopsis:
“It’s been over a decade since the sudden appearance of the “gates”—the paths that connect our world with a different dimension. Since then, certain humans have awakened to supernatural powers. We call these individuals “hunters.” Hunters make their living by using their powers to conquer dungeons inside the gates. In this world of tough customers, the low-ranked hunter Jinwoo Sung is known as “the weakest hunter of all humanity” One day, Jinwoo gets fatally injured when he runs into high-rank double dungeons hidden within a low-rank dungeon. Just then, a mysterious quest window appears in front of him. On the verge of death, Jinwoo decides to accept the quest and starts leveling up… while the others aren’t.”
