The team behind the television anime adaptation of Takahiro and Yōhei Takemura’s Chained Soldier (Mato Seihei no Slave) manga made an exciting announcement on Saturday that the anime is set to return for a second season.
Accompanied by a teaser video and visual featuring Ren Yamashiro, fans were thrilled by the news following the airing of the first season’s 12th and final episode on Thursday.
Premiering in Japan on January 4, the anime aired on AT-X, Tokyo MX, BS-Asahi, and MBS, after previously being slated for release last year. HIDIVE has been streaming the anime as it airs, and the North American premiere took place at the Anime NYC event on November 17.
The chained soldier anime features a talented cast including Yūya Hirose as Yūki Wakura, Akari Kitō as Kyōka Uzen, Yume Miyamoto as Himari Azuma, and many others. Set in a world besieged by monsters known as Shūki, the story centers on Yūki Wakura, a boy who crosses paths with Kyōka Uzen, captain of the 7th Anti-Demon Squad, after she gains the power of the peach—a unique ability granted only to women.
Junji Nishimura serves as the anime’s general director, with Gorō Kuji directing at Seven Arcs. Yasuhiro Nakanishi handles series composition, while Ryōta Kanō and Akira Kindaichi pen the script. Character design is by Hiroyuki Yoshii, with color design by Kaoru Nishimura. The music is composed by Kohta Yamamoto, and sound direction is overseen by Chikako Yokota.
Adding to the excitement, Akari Kitō performs the anime’s opening theme song “Yume no Ito” (String of Dreams), while Maaya Uchida sings the ending theme song “CHA∞IN.”
The manga, which debuted on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ manga website in January 2019, is the brainchild of Takahiro (known for Akame ga KILL!) and Takemura (renowned for the Papa no Iu Koto o Kikinasai! manga).
