We haven’t gotten a great racing anime for a few years. Thus, the announcement of new racing cars, Overtake!, is like a gift for heaven.
As original anime, there is no spoiler on how this anime will turn out. With TROYCA handling the anime, fans are worried that this will end up as your average joe anime. But, there is hope that this anime will quench the thirst for racing anime.

Overtake! Cast and Staff
The list of cast and staff was revealed at the same time as the first anime announcement. We have a few additional cast joining the lineup. The announcement was revealed at the Kadokawa boot at AnimeJapan 2023.
Thus, we have 6 cast members confirmed. They are:
- Anan Furuya as Haruka Asahina
- Katsuyuki Konishi as Kouya Madoka
- Tasuku Hatanaka as Koutarou Komaki (New)
- Kengo Kawanishi as Satsuki Harunaga (New)
- Taku Yashiro as Toshiki Tokumaru (New)
- Reina Ueda as Ariko Mitsuzawa (New)
Ei Aoki (Id:Invaded) is directing the anime at TROYCA (Re:Creators, IDOLiSH7 series). Ayumi Sekine (IDOLiSH7) is handling the series composition with the supervision of Katsuhiko Takayama (Big Order, Two Car).
Masako Matsumoto (Aldnoah.Zero) will adapt the original character design from Takako Shimura (Hourou Musuko).
Overtake! PV and Visual Teaser
The first PV was released on January 20, 2023. There is nothing noteworthy about the PV aside from that they implement 3D CGI technology like Initial D. Unfortunately, they didn’t release another PV when they did a live stream program at AnimeJapan 2023.
On the other hand, they released a new visual teaser featuring the main character Haruka Asahina and his rival team, Toshiki Tokumaru and Ariko Mitsuzawa. We can also see, probably, heroine Ariko Mitsuzawa at the paddock.
Overtake! Story
Freelance photographer, Kouya Madoka, is in the middle of a slump for some reason. While looking for a way to end his slump, he goes to Fuji International Speedway to find a story.
By chance, he meets the high school F4 racer, Haruka Asahina. Somehow, he finds his heart beating again. He decides to support Asahina in his endeavor with a small team, Komaki Motors.
With this fated meeting, the fate of two people who have completely different personalities and ages is intertwined.
