The story was created by Misato Mitsumi, Tatsuki Amazuyu, and Tamiki Wakaki as doujinshi at Comiket 2016. From then on, Kadokawa Shoten started publishing a total of 2 volumes in 2021.
Based on the original premise, the story will explain how the classic game was created using a 16-bit system computer. But, the story will most likely turn into something entirely different. The official has confirmed that the series will bring a new story apart from the source.

16bit Sensation: Another Layer Release Date
After having an adaptation announcement at the Comiket 101 convention in December 2022, the official website finally revealed the broadcast time of the series. It is confirmed that the anime will begin airing in October 2023. Unfortunately, the exact date has yet to be announced.
Though the month is coming near, it is odd that the anime has yet to release a single PV. The good news is the series will be present in Aniplex Online Fest 2023 on September 20, 2023. We can expect the PV will drop in that event. For now, they released a key visual on August 7, 2023.
The key visual only shows the series’ main character, Konoha Akisato. As per the story’s concept, the original doujinshi should be set in 1992 when the old computer with a 16-bit system is just released. Yet, somehow, the main character seems to hold an advanced tablet from the 2020s.
But it is already expected because the official has announced that the story will adopt a new story apart from the source from the 2016s Comiket. So, how the story will unfold?
Cast and Staff
The list of cast and staff was released on August 7, 2023. Although only a handful of them has been revealed. They are:
- Aoi Koga as Konoha Akisato
- Atsushi Abe as Mamoru Rokuta
- Ayako Kawasumi as Kaori Shimoda
- Yui Horie as Meiko Uehara
Takashi Sakuma (Assistant Director in Sword Art Online: Alicization – War of Underworld) will direct the series in Silver (We Never Learn). Tatsuya Takahashi (The Faraway Paladin) will be responsible for the series composition after being provided with the original story from Tamiki Wakaki (The World God Only Knows).
Masakatsu Sasaki (Tonikaku Kawaii) is in charge of character design. Yashikin (My First Girlfriend is Gal) will compose the music under the supervision of Satoshi Motoyama (Mashle) as sound director. The opening theme will be performed by Shoko Nakagawa entitled “65535”. It is decided that the single will be released on November 1, 2023. Unfortunately, the ending theme is still TBA.
